Bridges Lateral Entry Program

Krieger Schechter Day School designed the Bridges Lateral Entry Program to help students who enter KSDS in grades 1-8 seamlessly transition into our school. We provide academic support in General and Judaic Studies for all new students and individualized attention for those with little or no background in Hebrew and Judaics. We also ensure a successful social transition by helping students and their families effortlessly integrate into the KSDS community.

“The Bridges Lateral Entry Program made my child’s transition from public school to KSDS very easy. The school continuously supported my child throughout the transition process and beyond.” -Bridges parent

Here is what the program offers:

  • Hebrew Beginners Program: We offer a Hebrew Beginners Program for students who are new to Hebrew. This program provides a warm, supportive environment where students can develop foundational language skills and gain confidence as they learn. As they progress, students are placed in the class level that best matches their growing abilities.

  • Complimentary Summer Workshops: Workshops help new students transition to the KSDS curriculum.

  • Buddy families: KSDS matches new families with three current families based on student age and interests so they have many opportunities to connect with the community.

  • One-day August boot camp: Includes a crash course in navigating our hallways and routines as well as team-building activities for students to get comfortable with teachers and classmates.

  • Ongoing support: One-on-one consultations with the Director of Bridges Lateral Entry Program for students and families throughout the transition period.

“We had two children enter KSDS through the Bridges Lateral Entry Program, both Lower and Middle School. Both transitions were seamless, socially and academically. Almost immediately, we knew we made the right choice for our daughters and have never looked back on our decision.” – Emily and Matt Hackner
