Academic and Social-Emotional Learning Support
Academic Support
At KSDS, we believe passionately in knowing and understanding each of our learners: their unique strengths and areas for development. As part of our focus on individualized education, we aim to stretch our learners academically and socially and to equip our students for 21st-century success. Our small class sizes, supportive and nurturing environment, and our talented and experienced teaching faculty enable us to provide thoughtful and reflective strategies to enhance the learning experience for all of our learners.
We have an outstanding and dedicated learning support team including:
- Learning specialists
- Reading and math specialists
- School psychologist
- School counselor
We also have faculty dedicated to the enrichment and advancement of skills. Some of the services we provide for students in our Lower School include: enrichment clubs and activities, specialized daily reading groups using Orton Gillingham methodologies, multisensory math, social skill development and targeted reading comprehension, and writing skill development. In the Middle School, we provide advanced classes and support services including workshops to address executive functioning, writing, and more.
Social-Emotional Learning
Social-emotional learning (SEL) is a priority at KSDS. To that end, the school has adopted the Bo N’Daber curriculum, which addresses SEL by way of offering elements intertwined in the daily routine of Lower and Middle School students as well as themed units covered throughout the year. There is synergy and continuity in the SEL Curriculum at KSDS, as well as a throughline of Jewish values which grounds SEL in the school’s Jewish identity.
