The KSDS 8th Grade Play – a story of who we are
Dr. Robyn Blum
My plan all along was that my March blog post would be about the KSDS 8th Grade Play tradition – an annual all-Hebrew musical that serves so many mission-driven goals for us at our school. More than just a typical 8th grade stage performance, the 8th Grade Play brings together Hebrew language learning, collaboration, community, personal growth, public speaking, life lessons, and more.
In fact, I had a whole blog post planned, with alumni testimony, staff and student reflections.
And, then, before I could write my post, Noah Efron, host of ‘The Promised’ podcast, was in the audience for the second night’s show, and proceeded to spotlight this year’s KSDS play, The Lion King, in his recent episode.
The podcast says it all, and for someone outside of our community to be able to recognize the enduring power of this 32-year-strong KSDS tradition, warmed all of our hearts.
Please listen to the podcast here, beginning at the 1 hour 9 minute mark.
We are part of a very, very special community. It is a privilege every day to be on this journey of learning and community together.
Bonus!: Want to see the tribute to the 8th grade plays over the years, as alumni from the past 31 years shared the names of their 8th grade plays? See the montage here, and see who you recognize from past shows!!
